NATURAL LASH GROWTH CYCLE

Anagen phase:  This is the stage of growth. The lashes are actively growing. It lasts anywhere from 30 and 45 days. While the lashes are in this stage, they do not fall out unless intentionally pulled or torn out. If that happens, it can take approximately 2 months to regenerate! Approximately 40% of the upper lashes, and 15% of the lower lashes are in this stage at any given time. Every singular lash will grow to a certain length and then stop. The lashes are new in this phase and extra care must be taken such as not lashing them as they may be too fragile to do so. They can be recognized as smaller lashes that are growing and getting stronger, or as a lighter colour.

Catagen phase: The cessation of growth or transition stage happens during the Catagan phase. The hair follicle will begin to shrink and the lash stops growing. If an eyelash is pulled or torn out during this phase, it will not grow back immediately. After the completion of the Catagen phase, it will continue on to the next stage.

This stage lasts about 2-3 weeks. When the lash looks like it's at its plateau in height and length, you can tell it's in the Catagen Phase.

Telogen phase: This stage is best referred to as the resting stage. For some, it can last over 100 days. There is no growth during this stage butt the lash is still attached to the follicle.

If you were to pull out a hair at this stage(DON'T!), you would notice a root or white ball on the end of the hair. That would be an indication that the hair has shed from the follicle completely. Post-Telogen phase, the hair will either fall out or be pushed out by new lash growth. During this growth, you will notice a lash loss of approximately 4 lashes a day. Which is completely normal and to be expected. The complete stage for one lash to complete it's growth cycle is about 4-8 weeks.

Losing 1-4 lashes a day is completely normal as they move through the different growth cycles. Every single eyelash is in their own growth stage and they will shed according to which phase they are in.
